Born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey, I pulled up my Eastern roots and replanted myself and my youngest daughter, Rebecca, on January 31, 2001 cross country in Merced, California. (my 2 other adult daughters deciding to stay back east.)
After living all my life on the East coast, the sudden change to the West coast was drastic to say the least. I hardly ever traveled before, hitting only Eastern states if I traveled at all. So, when I decided to move to the West coast, everyone I knew thought I had lost my mind! And the fact that I was heading there to get married was a cincher that I had totally gone over the edge.
I have been married to Daniel for 8 years now. As a "blended family" there have been some ups and downs, but we are still holding tight to our commitment to each other.
I have never gone back East and I don't miss New Jersey one bit. Things have changed so much since I was a kid growing up in Jersey. I don't particularly like the changes either.
Since I have come to California, I have not only gotten married, I have gone to college and earned my Associate Arts Degree in Visual Arts. This is something I would never have thought to do in Jersey. Even though I have not yet reached the title of "Profession Artist," I feel that I have accomplished part of my goal by getting my degree.
I am basically a self-taught Artist, specializing in portraits. Yes, I did go to school for art, but I have been drawing since I could hold a pencil and by the time I did get to college I had already been constantly honing my skills on my own. The classes at college helped to smooth the rough edges of my knowledge. I do appreciate all that I learned from my art instructors.
